“Sotto al Ponte” Church – Quintodecimo

The church located “sotto al ponte” (under the bridge) in Quintodecimo, recently restored, welcomes visitors at the entrance to the village with a simple and harmonious design. The conservation work has enhanced the white side walls, the wooden truss ceiling and the ornamental motif that runs along the entire upper perimeter, restoring readability and clarity to the original elements.
This church dedicated to Santa Maria delle Piane is the parish church of Quintodecimo, its history dates back to the 14th century, where we find the fresco, now consolidated, which stands out for the elegant posture of the Virgin and the refined rendering of the garments.
Above the wall hangs a large canvas of the Madonna and Child, which was also the subject of attention in the recent restoration.

Outside, at the back of the church, a distinctive circular opening with Christian symbolism at the edges has been recovered and enhanced: an enigmatic element that recalls defensive forms, but whose meaning is probably linked to symbolic or lithic functions.
The church in the upper village is undergoing renovation, so the church under the bridge has become the main place of worship in the village.
