Valledacqua Monastery

004After approximately 1000 years, the Monastery of Valledacqua has been reborn. In 2002, it was entrusted to the female Camaldolese monastic community, dependent on the Monastery of St. Anthony in Rome.
According to the Camaldolese style, the Monastery is associated with a guesthouse, a place intended to welcome those who wish to renew their Christian life through the reading of the word of God, prayer, and silence.
The expressions of the great abbot of Fonte Avellana, St. Peter Damian, come to mind: “Oh, hermitage! Delight of holy souls and inexhaustible sweetness of inner life!…oh, cell! Admirable workshop of spiritual exercise, where the soul rebuilds within itself the image of its Creator and restores its original purity!…oh, cell! Entirely spiritual house!…oh, hermitage! Freedom of the soul!…oh, eremitic life! Blessed life, garden of the soul, holy life, angelic life!…” (opus. XI, c. 19 Laus vitae eremiticae).
For our Diocese, it is a true gift from God. This has been understood by the numerous members of the “Friends of Valledacqua” Association.
