Having survived the invasion of Charles of Anjou’s militia and Galeotto Malatesta’s soldiers, Castel di Luco remained at the center of exceptional historical events. From here, on August 10, 1445, Pietro di Vanne Ciucci, lord of Luco, led a group of mountaineers to liberate Ascoli from the power of Rinaldo, Francesco Sforza’s brother. Once again, the mountain held high the torch of freedom. It was here, in this castle, that a famous Ascoli bandit, Parisani, had Chiarino Montaroni murdered in the summer of 1562, who had been entrusted with the defense of the manor. The bandits, under Parisani’s command, besieged it. The castle defender was treacherously called to the door, as if there was an intention to reach an agreement. Chiarino Montaroni came out and was killed by an arquebus shot. Parisani seized the body and, with the help of his henchmen, threw it into the Tronto River. <\/p>\n
In subsequent centuries, the castle transformed from a fortress into a noble residence, continuing to host the Ciucci family who owned it until 1800 when the last heiress, Maria, married Giuseppe Amici, who has passed down the entire property to his direct descendants to this day. Currently, the castle still maintains its original structure, and in the frescoed rooms now used as a restaurant, visitors can, by reservation, enjoy refined local dishes and revisit a millennium of history through a tour of the castle.

Through stairs carved into the rock, visitors leave behind everyday reality to plunge into a fairy-tale atmosphere. In one’s imagination, ladies and knights welcome guests to the sound of flutes and clarions, leading them back through history, through the evocative flowered courtyard that leads to the castle, where the austere beauty of the rooms evokes atmospheres of stories and legends told by the fireplace, of graceful maidens dancing in the halls, and mysterious secret passages leading to the heart of the manor.
